I saved a fortune on my new bathroom by shopping online

I'd always been keen on buying things over the Internet ever since we got a computer. It's so much easier to buy a book online and get it through the post rather than going out to a bookshop and trying to find the title you're looking for on the shelves. It also nearly always works out cheaper, so  when it came time to renovate my bathroom I wondered if I could also apply this same money saving and time saving technique to this too.

I'd only ever bought small things online before, things that didn't really matter if they arrived late or they weren't exactly as described, but money was a little tight and I hoped there would be some good savings to be had. I decided it would be an interesting project, and I hate trailing round the shops anyway!

My first job was to find a bathroom suite. I looked at several online retailers, but eventually I found a brand new bathroom suite for a really great price on eBay. It was from a retailer rather than a private individual so they would deliver it with no problem, and the delivery costs were included in the price. I triple checked all the measurements to make sure it was exactly what I wanted and ordered it. This had already saved me several hundred pounds so I was pretty impressed!

Next I needed tiles. I was planning on having porcelain floor tiles in a stone effect. I'd seen these tiles in many places so I knew they'd be easily available. I took a look at online tile shops and was amazed at the sheer choice available, much more than in a high street tile shop. However I wasn't swayed by all the options and stuck with my original choice. I found a tile that looked fabulous, the site had good photographs of each tile. I could have ordered just one to make sure it was right, but I didn't really have any particular preferences when it came to exact shades so I didn't bother, however I can see that this would be a really useful service as it could be hard to tell the exact colours and shades of some tiles when monitors are going to display the images slightly differently depending on their colour settings.

The first thing to arrive were the tiles. They were very quick and delivery was free. It was so much easier having them delivered than having to carry them all from the shop to the car, then from the car to the house. There were no breakages either. A few days later the bathroom suite arrived and it was perfect! For the price I hadn't expected such a good quality suite, but it was really good. I used to be a plumber, so I didn't need to pay out for fitting it either, so the whole job was done very cheaply, but the finish is very luxurious and looks way more expensive than it was. I'd definitely shop online for this sort of thing again.
